Kristopher Apple is a violinist, composer, performer, and improviser who works at the intersection of music, movement, text, and digital media. His music is a regular feature of the San Diego arts scene where he works closely with choreographers, writers, directors, composers, visual artists, and software developers to integrate music and interdisciplinary performance practices. He is a highly sought after artist who provides music and production support to numerous colleges, universities, dance companies, and theater companies throughout San Diego. Some recent projects include Animal Cracker Conspiracy, So Say We All, Nathan Hubbard (A Thousand Butterflies, Encinitas and Everything After, Nathan Hubbard Quartet) Grey Pony Writers Guild, Liam Clancy (this—the improvised series), Diversionary Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre/Amigos Del REP, Wallpaper Performance Company, transcenDANCE Youth Arts Project, San Diego State University School of Music and Dance, UC San Diego Department of Theatre & Dance, Palomar College Performing Arts Department, Mira Costa College, IMAGOmoves, leslie seiters/little known danceLIVE, Odd and Even, Blair Robert Nelson, Somebodies Dance Theater, and A Hundred Ghosts.

Apple’s work is informed by his ongoing investigation and interaction with dance, poetry, and music practices in performance art. He earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in interdisciplinary performance studies from San Diego State University. His research has led him to the work of artists such as Kurt Schwitters and the Dadaists, Malcolm Goldstein and Judson Dance Theater, and Jackson Mac Low and Fluxus. He composes performance pieces that explore intersections and combinations of music, dance, poetry and digital media.

Apple has performed in Europe and extensively throughout the west coast including Ensenada, Tijuana, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Since 2007 he has served as studio faculty for the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance where he accompanies dance classes and is the technical director for the dance theater. Apple has been a member of collaborative dance theater LIVE since 2008, and in 2011 cofounded Odd&Even, a collaborative music and dance ensemble. In 2010 he received a Meet the Composers grant for his work with thePGKproject. Apple is a member of the Grey Pony Writers Guild, and his poetry is published in Furniture: poems & stories (Sheridan Press).
